Rolling Stone Magazine buys a Festival. What does that mean for unsigned Artists?

The truth is, probably nothing. While they may have a majority stake in Life Is Beautiful Fest, business wise they won’t do anything to help the exposure of local or regional Las Vegas bands. They haven’t in the past, why start now?

Even in the coverage from News 3 Las Vegas goes: “The festival covers three days, welcomes thousands of attendees and features major recording artists as headliners.”

I mean this kinda says it all. Roll the big machine out, steamroll the locals and expand in other areas and do the same thing. Wash, Rinse and Repeat. It makes me wish I could win the lottery. Just once. Like the big one. Powerball. $500,000,000.

I would actually use that money to bring down some of the corporate sharks who have made it impossible for unsigned bands to play on these platforms without “Buying on” at RIDICULOUS prices. I would. I find out where they’re putting on a festival, find a big enough space in close vicinity, Pick 45 unsigned bands, pump $25,000 at radio/billboard promotions and sell tickets for $10…

While all these corporate events are charging $200-$500 for weekend passes, we’ll do $25. Let the vendors keep 100% of their sales in exchange for corporate sponsorship, and still be able to give money to a Veteran Charity.

It just boggles my mind how we allow these corporate cookie cutter machines to just control musical tastes. We have so many options for new music. And people will rush to pay those “Airport” prices but not spend $7 on a Friday night to support their neighbors. At the same time, won’t like, share or subscribe to their social media pages, which to put it into the words of millenials is “It’s like, free ya’ll”..TikTok/Instagram fabulous! I used to get excited about changes like this.

But as the old adage goes, “Hey, here comes the new boss, same as the old boss”. I would love for that not to be true. Who knows? Maybe they will hear 1 lone voice out of Nowhereville, Internet City, Globe..

Have a goodnight. More positive writings from the crypt soon!
